Total irre:

Armour of God Released!

The Hong Kong Rescue version of Armour of God is finished finally.
It took quite a while but I think you'll love the final product.

There are a few things I'm particularly happy with on this release. First, I'm very happy with how I was able to blend the Miramax source and the Medium Rare source together and make it look seamless. As you know, the Medium Rare source has very different colors, very blue. So I carefully color matched the scenes that I spliced in to the Miramax scenes. For every shot I used from the Medium Rare source, I'd try and find an identical shot (or as close to it as possible) and then I'd match the colors in Adobe Speedgrade. I matched up dozens of shots this way. It should be very seamless when watching the film.

Second, I reconstructed the opening credits using Adobe After Effects and Rotoscoping. I had to cover up the altered Miramax titles with the correct titles taken from the Medium Rare source. The trouble was that once I carefully color matched the footage to match perfectly, the color of the titles themselves would change. So I had to overlay the titles twice. First I covered up the Miramax titles with the Medium Rare titles, then I overlayed the same titles again, this time NOT color matched. Then I carefully rotoscoped out ONLY the red titles so only they would be visible on top of the video I'd already created.

The result is seamless, practically perfect.

Another thing I'm happy with is that we got additional subtitles for the three songs that play during the film. The three songs are: "Friend of Mine", "Lorelei" and "High Upon High". The subtitles Darren gave me for these are extremely accurate, and differ considerably from the English version of these songs.

Additionally, I'm happy that you have the option of playing the film with either "Lorelei" or "High Upon High" playing over the ending credits. This option is available when you select either "Original Cantonese 2.0 LPCM" or "Original English Dub 2.0 LPCM" in the Uncut Hong Kong Version Audio Selection Menu.

If you choose the "High Upon High" alternative, the film will play through the first 22 chapters of the film as normal, then seamlessly branch to an alternative timeline where "High Upon High" will play over the ending credits instead of "Lorelei".

I'm happy with our selection of audio tracks. I'm confident that each audio option represents the best quality version of that audio track that is available. Exclusive to our version is the "Podcast on Fire" commentary taken from their podcast episode on Armour of God.

Uncut Hong Kong Version Audio Tracks:

1. Original Cantonese 2.0 LPCM (HK Star Laserdisc)

2. Original English Dub 2.0 LPCM (Pony Canyon Laserdisc)

3. New English Dub 5.1 Dolby (Hong Kong Legends DVD)

4. Cantonese Surround Remix 7.1 (Kam & Ronson BD)

5. Mandarin 2.0 LPCM (Deltamac DVD)

6. "Podcast on Fire" Commentary

Miramax Version Audio Tracks:

1. Miramax English Dub 2.0 DTS-HD (Miramax BD)

2. Original English Dub 2.0 LPCM (Pony Canyon Laserdisc)

3. Original Cantonese 2.0 LPCM (HK Star Laserdisc)

4. New English Dub 5.1 Dolby (Hong Kong Legends DVD)

5. Cantonese Surround Remix 7.1 DTS-HD (Kam & Ronson BD)

6. Mandarin 2.0 LPCM (Deltamac DVD)

Disc 2 is packed full of incredible special features, many of which are exclusive to Hong Kong Rescue. In particular, the "Image Gallery" and "Under the Armour" features are amazing. They're good enough to justify their own standalone release.

In addition, the "Trailer Gallery", "Outtakes" and "That Same Question" features are standouts.

Then there's a feature on Jackie's 2016 Lifetime Achievement Oscar win, and an entire documentary on Jackie's early life called "Traces of a Dragon"

Here's the full list of special features:

1. Image Gallery

2. Restoration & Color Correction

3. Under the Armour

4. Jackie Chan Interview

5. Willie Chan Interview

6. Outtakes

7. Trailer Gallery

8. Promotional Archive

9. That Same Question

10. Fan Tributes

11. Traces of a Dragon

12. Jackie's Oscar

13. Officially Amazing

14. This is Jackie Chan

15. There is Only One

16. Comedy Special

17. HK Cinema 101

18. Charitable Chan

19. "Sing Lung" Sings

20. Working with Jackie

21. Hong Kong Rescue

I've refined my encoding techniques and so I think the quality of these features is higher than the features on earlier releases. There should be less compression artifacts.

Finally, everything is authored at a higher level in my opinion. The menus look better, navigation is more seamless and the subtitles are better, to name a few examples.

There is not likely to be a better version of this film available for quite some time, so I hope you like what we've assembled for you.

Digga, der macht nur Mad-Dog-Chan-Filme. Und außerdem habe ich CHEEETAH ON FIRE auf DVD (nicht, daß es der Mist wert wäre).

Nächster Jackie Chan der von 88 Films kommt

JANUARY TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT

Battle Creek Brawl (28th Jan)

Jackie Chan arrived on American soil with hopes of becoming a superstar in the West and his first ever Hollywood project as a leading man certainly provided him with a notable director in Robert Clouse, the legendary director who took Bruce Lee to the next level with ENTER THE DRAGON (1973). Whilst BATTLE CREEK BRAWL (1980) was not quite as epoch defining, this is still prime Jackie - as our man successfully takes on the mafia and romances the gorgeous Playboy cover girl Kristine DeBell. A classic bout of chopsocky on Anglicised soil, BATTLE CREEK BRAWL is ready to punch its way into your collection in this gobsmacking 4k HD restoration!
