A mysterious face-off in a wooded clearing between two escaped convicts and a carload of sharply dressed yakuza holding a beautiful woman captive ends in hails of bullets and showers of blood. The location for this violent encounter is the mythic Forest of Resurrection, the site of the 444th portal of the 666 hidden gates that link this earthly domain to the netherworld – and it didn’t get this name for nothing. As one of the surviving prisoners escapes with the girl into the darkness of the forest, disgruntled gangsters soon become the least of their worries as an earlier battle between a lone warrior against hordes of zombie samurai is carried over from a millennium ago into the present day…

Versus caused a sensation both in Japan and internationally upon its release, launching the careers of director Ryûhei Kitamura (Godzilla Final Wars, Midnight Meat Train) and action star and fight choreographer Tak Sakaguchi (Battlefield Baseball, Yakuza Weapon). Hole ich mir. Wird qualitativ sicher besser als die Tokyo Shock DVD

Irgendwie kann ich mir kaum vorstellen, dass der irgendwie gut aussieht auf Blu-ray. Schon die DVDs kamen über besseres VHS-Niveau kaum hinaus, und ich glaube, das lag eher an der Vorlage denn an technischer Schlamperei der DVD-Verantwortlichen. Lass mich aber gerne eines Besseren belehren, auch wenn ich nicht sicher bin, ob ich nach japanischer und deutscher Limited Edition-DVD nochmal in den Film investieren möchte.

Und ich hatte mir nach jahrelangem Zögern dieses Jahr erst für ordentlich Geld die US-DVD geholt.

Die jap. habe ich auch. Favorisiere den Ultimate Cut. Riskiere Neukauf. Ihr solltest aber professionelle Blu-Ray-Reviews abwarten, ich hab davon keine Ahnung.

Versus (UK Blu Ray = The Ultimate Versus)
Film gefällt mir, auch wenn ich dem The Ultimate Versus Cut paar Längen und lahme Settings nicht absprechen kann. Muss Mal wieder die reguläre Fassung schauen, ewig her und die dürfte wohl auch völlig ausreichend sein. Zudem hat diese eine deutlich bessere Qualität als der Ultimate Cut. Besonders hell ist die Fassung, was mich an der Legend Tin-Box Fassung immer sehr störte (teilweise erkannte man nicht Mal mehr die Knöpfe der Kleider da so dunkel). Zumindest wenn ich die Pics hier sehe sieht das schon toll aus: http://www.mondo-digital.com/versus.html
Ansonsen cool was Kitamura & Sakaguchi hier aus dem Budget rausgeholt haben! Erinnert an einen jungen Raimi und Tanz der Teufel oder Craven und Last House on the Left oder Hooper und Blutgericht in Texas! Paar Freude, ab in den Wald, Kamera nicht vergessen Einige der Splatter-Effekte sind top und den Humor mochte ich grösstenteils! Einfach die Story gibt nicht viel her, die Settings sind lahm und repetitiv. 7/10
