A stylish and erotic horror film that was banned in France in the 1970s.

Mondo Macabro was the first company to resurrect this film in 2003 with their DVD release of the theatrical version. Now finally on Blu-ray, and in collaboration with France’s Le Chat qui fume video label, it’s possible finally to see this rare Gallic horror film in something like its intended form. Alongside the theatrical release the disc includes over 30 minutes of trailers and alternate and deleted scenes, including the mythical “seventh victim” sequence. Most of this footage has not been seen for 45 years and is quite a revelation.

The disc has a wonderful and eye opening interview with Robert de Laroche who plays “Francis” the moustachioed visitor who, along with his girlfriend Muriel, ends up as a victim in the Zaroff’s torture chamber.
Other extras include an archive interview with the late Michel Lemoine who talks about his life and career in the world of Euro exploitation movies.

A 20 page illustrated booklet gives background information and production details about this unique “film fantastique”.
And the package is rounded off by not one but TWO brand new sleeves from the insanely talented Justin Coffee.

Seven Women for Satan (US Blu - Extended Version)
Franz. Mix aus Erotik & Grusel aus dem Jahr 1974 von und mit Michel Lemoine, der das Low-Budget Kino, Horrorfilme und Jess Franco zu mögen scheint (siehe Interview mit ihm auf der Disc). Mir persönlich hat der Film nur mittelprächtig gefallen. Es ist mehr ein style over substance Inhalt und ich habe mir mehr Erotik und Gewalt (Effekte) gewünscht. Ich hatte wohl nach dem Youtube Clip zu hohe Erwartungen. Was mangelnde Effekte angehen merkt man dem Film das geringe Budget auch an. Zudem wurde ich mit Michel Lemoine als Hauptperson nicht warm. In einer Nebenrolle ist Jess Franco Star (und Schweizer!) Howard Vernon zu sehen. Die Musik gefiel mir nur bedingt und man hört relativ viel Vogelgezwitscher, was ich hasse (Ausnahme: Krähen). Es gibt zwei-drei sehenswerte Szenen (u.a. Falle, Hund, Ende) und genug nackte Haut, um Exploitation-Fans zufriedenstellen zu dürfen. Die Disc ist qualitativ top. Es gibt viele Extras wie geschnittene Szenen, alternative Szenen, ein Interview mit Michel Lemoine (sehenswert) und ein fast 1stündiges Interview mit Robert de Laroche (von LE CHAT QUI FUME). Inwieweit sich der reguläre Kino-Cut von der Extended Version unterscheidet, ist mir nicht bekannt. 5.5/10

Danke an Schnabel für die tolle Mondo Macabro BD.
Gibt keinen Teufel, nur einen reichen Geschäftsmann, der sich in sadistischen Visionen verliert (und diese teilweise auch auslebt). Ist Exploitation durch und durch, hat aber eine unique artistic vision und spielt subtil mit Elementen aus dem Geisterfilm - trotz niedrigem Budget merkt man, daß hier ein Könner an der Kamera war. Soundtrack auch großartig. Unterm Strich eine positive Überraschung, die man insbesondere Jess Franco-Fans ans Herz legen kann.
