Update:
Hong Kong Movie News! - Update on Juno Mak's 'Sons Of The Neon Night'
If you follow Hong Kong movie news, Juno Mak’s ‘Sons Of The Neon Night’ will very likely be on your most-anticipated / must-see list of upcoming movies. The film’s all-star cast include Louis Koo, Tony Leung Ka-fai, Lau Ching-wan, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Richie Jen and Gao Yuan Yuan.
The film went into production in 2017, and principal filming completed in March 2018; but till now, there’s no official release date announced (the producer says the earliest the film may be released will be in 2021). As a result, many fans have been wondering what’s happening with the production.
Now the Hong Kong media has finally given us some answers.
Firstly, the film, which is still in post-production, has its budget escalating from HK$200 million to HK$400 million. As a result, its investors are no longer willing to pay any more money to get it completed.
Secondly, a few of the leads including Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tony Leung Ka-fai and Richie Jen were apparently unhappy with Juno Mak’s perfectionist approach to filming, unreasonable demands on-set and lack of communication with his cast. Kaneshiro is reportedly so upset that he left as soon as his contract was completed and is now refusing to return to Hong Kong to shoot additional scenes for the film.
While the news is certainly not good, I do sincerely hope that there will be a happy ending for this production. After all, it is a big-budget film with an incredible cast from a passionate filmmaker who showed a lot of potentials with his last film ‘Rigor Mortis’.

Re: Sons of the Neon Night (Juno Mak)
